NATIONAL SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAM AND SCHOOL BREAKFAST PROGRAM

USDA SPECIAL POLICY MEMOS

The USDA Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) developed Special Policy (SP) memos to ensure compliance with all relevant federal laws, executive orders, directives, and policies related to the Child Nutrition Programs (CNP).  The regulations and policy memos provide operational guidance and regulatory updates, legislative implementation, policy clarification, procurement and food sourcing, and health and safety requirements for State Agencies and sponsors operating the following programs:

 

  • National School Lunch Program (NSLP),
  • School Breakfast Program (SBP),
  • Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP),
  • Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), and 
  • Seamless Summer Option (SSO).

 

Regulations requires State Agencies, sponsoring organizations, and institutions to keep USDA Special Policy memorandums for reference and to apply immediately the appropriate instructions to agency programs.
