WETTENGEL ELEMENTARY GRAB-N-GO SCHOOL MEALS TEMPORARY CLOSURE

The Guam Department of Education (GDOE) Grab-N-Go school meal distribution at Wettengel Elementary School will close for the remainder of this week due to an electrical issue affecting the Dededo campus. 

The GDOE is working with the Guam Power Authority to address the issue as soon as possible. While the electrical issue is being resolved, school meal distribution at Wettengel Elementary will be suspended from tomorrow, June 24, 2020 to Friday, June 26, 2020. Distribution at Wettengel Elementary is expected to resume on Monday, June 29, 2020, and any future changes will be announced. 

Grab-N-Go lines at Maria Ulloa Elementary School may be longer than usual as a result of the Wettengel closure. GDOE staff will be on site to monitor traffic and to maintain the safety of participants through the help of the Guam Police Department and village mayors. The GDOE asks for the public’s patience and understanding as it continues to resolve challenges in order to provide meals under this emergency situation.

Although the Wettengel distribution site is temporarily closed, normal Grab-N-Go school meal distribution will continue at 11 other locations:

North:

• Astumbo Elementary School 

• F.B. Leon Guerrero Middle School

• Maria Ulloa Elementary School

Central:

• Agana Heights Elementary School

• B.P. Carbullido Elementary School

• George Washington High School

• John F. Kennedy High School

• Jose Rios Middle School

South:

• Inarajan Elementary School

• M.U. Lujan Elementary School

• Southern High School

Grab-N-Go meals are available at no cost utilizing a drive-thru operation, on a first come, first served basis.  The Grab-N-Go school meal program is limited to one meal per child and offers breakfast and lunch. Vehicles are limited to a maximum of 10 meals, and walkers are limited to a maximum of 5 meals. The Grab-N-Go school meal program is operational every weekday, Monday through Friday, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., except holidays. Walkers are also accepted beginning at 11:30 a.m.

All children age 18 years and below, to include public and private school children are eligible to participate.

The Grab-N-Go school meal program is made possible through a waiver received by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Participants are asked to wear a mask when picking up meals. Drivers should also remain in their vehicles and follow instructions to facilitate a smooth and safe distribution process.
