BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES

Program Background Information

  • The Behavioral Health Services (BHS) team comprises qualified professionals who provide mental health services to students at the Guam Department of Education (GDOE). District School Psychologists (DSP) are licensed professional counselors under the Guam Board of Allied Health Examiners. School-Based Behavioral Health - Social Workers (SBBH-SW) are licensed social workers under the Guam Board of Social Work. The team is managed by the lead DSP (Clinical Director), DSP, SBBH-SW, and clinical and student interns, who have specialized training to provide school-based behavioral health services and psychological services. The BHS team provides direct support and interventions to students, their families, and school personnel to ensure students succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally.

  • Purpose: SBBH clinicians help students to create positive relationships with their peers, family, school and community members. They also facilitate the ability of students to build confidence and foster resilience – the ability to bounce back from challenges with a stronger sense of self-confidence and coping capacity – in order for students to grow into healthy and successful contributing members of our island community.

  • Mission: The middle of the Guam Department of Education CShool-based Behavioral health Services (SBBH) program is to support students’ mental & behavioral health needs to increase their academic success and foster healthy relationships & development.
